John Gibson mocks John Stewart, thinks we need another 9/11

Leave it up to the good folks at FauxNewz to allow a guy like Gibson and his cohorts tell us how it is.

This is easily the most irresponsible, abhorrent piece of trash that has ever come out of FoxNews - and that’s saying a lot. Even forgetting the awfulness of Gibson mocking Stewart’s heartfelt response to the 9/11 attacks (which is pure childishness, pretty much on par with what a lot of these Conservative Republican dick heads do), the mocking began with a short comment about the media. FAUXNEWZ ALERT: The Daily Show isn’t really part of the media…it’s a fucking comedy news show. What exactly is so threatening about Stewart making fun of our half retarded president or his evil puppet master Cheney?

And we wonder what’s wrong with this country…

And silence contagious in moments like these…

Well it’s been exactly 3 years since I had the pleasure of trudging through traffic, rain, and mud on my way to the final two Phish shows at Coventry. I didn’t get to see as many shows as I would’ve liked (I think 11 shows from ‘97-’04) but they still provided me with joy, happiness, and an appreciation of music that I might not have had otherwise. This post is hard for me to write, because I don’t like feeling as if Phish is in the past…but with Trey’s legal and drug problems, it doesn’t exactly seem as if a Phish reunion is right around the corner.

As a kick in the nuts, Trey guested with DMB last night at SPAC. Any other year I probably would’ve been there, but thanks to the weird tour this show happened to fall on a Tuesday night and we chose to go to Hartford instead of Saratoga. I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.

The saving face of mediocrity - an open letter to Jose Reyes

reyeskick.jpg You hear that rumbling, Jose? That’s the bottom, and it seems all but ready to fall out if something doesn’t change fast.

I know you guys are in first place and have been for pretty much the entire season, but is there not some sense of urgency being only 3 games up in the NL East with about 6 weeks left in the season? Despite the win on Sunday, saving face against the Marlins at home isn’t exactly something you should be playing for right now. In fact, I think the team should be embarrassed with some of the play yesterday.

Dropping pop flies, wild pitches, and overthrown balls are things that are usually reserved for spring training - but here we are, the middle of August, and you guys just played arguably the sloppiest game of the season. You’re playing at home, for Christ’s sake, Shea Stadium. Are you telling me that you don’t know how much space you have on a foul ball pop-up down the left field line?

There are some bad things happening with this team right now, Jose, and I’m not sure what can be fixed and what can’t. I think Pedro coming back will help- if not on the mound then at least in the locker room, where his contagious spirit has built the “new Mets” in the last 2+ years. He needs to be there to breathe some fire into you and your teammates, who have played with a “when do the playoffs start” attitude since the end of May. This is a dangerous attitude and you know it…if Pedro isn’t there, then it has to be you. YOU are the guy that everyone feeds off of right now. I know you’ve been a little out of it since Willie benched you last month for not running out a grounder, but get over it! You’re still a hell of a ballplayer and the best shortstop in the NL East, although Hanley sure showed you up over the weekend - in your own stadium nonetheless.

I guess the point is that now is not the time for mediocrity, especially against bottom dwellers in your own division. You and the rest of the boys need to start beating up on these guys - I hope you realize that September is right around the corner and you’ll basically ONLY be playing teams from the East. That 3 game lead that you’ve somehow hung onto all season could go *poof* very, very quickly. We all know that you guys have it in you to rip off 5 or 6 straight, so get it done! Despite all of my bellyaching and distemper, I’m still going to be there until the very end - even if I’m suffering. Go Mets!
