Egad! Victory!

Does anyone remember what this feels like? The Mets managed to do all of the little things (well, except field the ball cleanly) to take a victory from a scrappy 4th place baseball team, and Mets nation can take a short sigh of relief. While Jose Reyes still seems to be busy before games eating Butterfinger ice cream bars, he smacked two hits and scored a couple of runs to get off the schneid. Oh, there’s also those guys named Alou and Wright (otherwise known as the gimp and the kid) who continue to be on fire down the stretch. Not only that, but Willie went to the bullpen in the 6th with runner at the corners and no outs and it worked out. Sosa must’ve had his eyes closed for each and every one of the four pitches he threw that inning in relief.
You would hope that this is the time when a veteran team buckles down and gets the job done at all costs. You would also hope that Alou’s sore quadriceps muscle doesn’t explode into a package of string mozzarella cheese that would make Sorrento jealous. One thing is certain- as long as the Mets keep winning and the Phillies lose a couple here and there, the post-season is well within grasp. Who would’ve thought that we’d be celebrating a Yadier Molina game winning hit? Scary.
