Eli Manning is in the Super Bowl?
A travesty, for sure…but he deserves props- he no longer looks like he needs to go to the sideline to hug his teddy bear after every series. But this does bring up a funny-ish joke I came across the other day.
God asks Peyton Manning first: “What do you believe?” Peyton thinks long and hard, looks God in the eye, and says, “I believe in hard work, and in staying true to family and friends. I believe in giving. I always try to do right by my fans.” God can’t help but see the essential goodness of Manning, and offers him a seat to His left.
Then God turns to Tony Romo and says, “What do you believe?” Tony says, “I believe passion, discipline, courage and honor are the fundamentals of life. I’ve always tried to be a true sportsman, both on and off the playing field.” God is greatly moved by Tony’s sincere eloquence, and offers him a seat to His right.
God then asks Eli Manning what he believes. Eli says, “I believe I am a deer, and that I see a car. With high beams on. Heading at me. I believe I will die soon. On a Sunday. Next month. And I believe it’s a miracle I still have another game to play this year. I believe Brett Favre is my patron saint. I believe in you, God, because there is no other explanation for any of what’s happened to me this last month. I thank you, Lord. Have mercy on my soul”
Finally, God turns to Tom Brady: “And you, Tom, what do you believe?” Tom replies, “I believe you’re in my seat.”
